In my case, libxml2 from MacPorts defines the xmlURI struct with one more element than the libxml2 from Mac OS X. For some reason, it uses the xmlCreateURI function from /usr/lib/libxml2.dylib instead of the xmlCreateURI function from /opt/local/lib/libxml2.dylib. This results in the last element of the xmlURI struct not getting initialized to NULL, so that when the struct is destroyed, the code attempts to free the wild pointer. Cc'ing maintainer of libxml2 since apparently a bug needs to be reported to the developers of libxml: `/opt/local/lib/libxml2.dylib` (version 9.31.0) and `/usr/lib/libxml2.dylib` (version 9.16.0 (on Mac OS X 10.4.11)) claim to have the same compatibility version (9.0.0) though they are incompatible because they define the `xmlURI` struct differently. Does the port command support specifying a version you want to install? No it does not. I see you already found how to do this, and I'm sorry to hear it did not help in your case, but for others who may want to try it: To get an older version, [browser:trunk/dports browse the repository] to find the port you want, then use the Revision Log link in the upper right to find the older version of the portfile that you want to install. For example, here's the portfile for [browser:trunk/dports/textproc/libxml2/Portfile at 26074 libxml2 @2.6.28_1]. Download this to disk using the Original Format link at the bottom of the page. Then use the Terminal to `cd` to the directory where you downloaded the portfile and type "`port install`". If the port had any patchfiles you would also need to grab all of them from the same revision, but libxml2 doesn't have any. -- Ticket URL: MacPorts Ports system for Mac OS From trac at macosforge.org Sat Mar 1 10:10:05 2008 From: trac at macosforge.org (MacPorts) Date: Sat, 01 Mar 2008 18:10:05 -0000 Subject: [MacPorts] #12703: rb-postgres should depend on the latest postgresql port available In-Reply-To: <053.005bff51b09b19e20ad82d504f74fd92@macosforge.org> References: <053.005bff51b09b19e20ad82d504f74fd92@macosforge.org> Message-ID: <062.0fe9702f23e29bd5a8d691d029ac99de@macosforge.org> #12703: rb-postgres should depend on the latest postgresql port available --------------------------------------+------------------------------------- Reporter: rick.martinez at gmail.com | Owner: jmr at macports.org Type: defect | Status: assigned Priority: Normal | Milestone: Port Enhancements Component: ports | Version: 1.5.0 Resolution: | Keywords: postgresql postgres ruby rb-postgres --------------------------------------+------------------------------------- Changes (by jmr at macports.org): * cc: jmr at macports.org (removed) * owner: macports-tickets at lists.macosforge.org => jmr at macports.org * status: new => assigned -- Ticket URL: MacPorts Ports system for Mac OS From trac at macosforge.org Sat Mar 1 10:17:35 2008 From: trac at macosforge.org (MacPorts) Date: Sat, 01 Mar 2008 18:17:35 -0000 Subject: [MacPorts] #12703: rb-postgres should depend on the latest postgresql port available In-Reply-To: <053.005bff51b09b19e20ad82d504f74fd92@macosforge.org> References: <053.005bff51b09b19e20ad82d504f74fd92@macosforge.org> Message-ID: <062.aae4b6a76b1e4796659f04b99bed3e76@macosforge.org> #12703: rb-postgres should depend on the latest postgresql port available --------------------------------------+------------------------------------- Reporter: rick.martinez at gmail.com | Owner: jmr at macports.org Type: defect | Status: assigned Priority: Normal | Milestone: Port Enhancements Component: ports | Version: 1.5.0 Resolution: | Keywords: postgresql postgres ruby rb-postgres --------------------------------------+------------------------------------- Comment (by jmr at macports.org): Could you please test this? I assume this has left my Macports in an inconsistent state; some of my port install's/upgrade's seem to be failing with the same error. I know absolutely nothing about Macports design/impl., so I do not know where to begin debugging this error, and I suspect debugging this will involve fixing more than one Macports file/portfile. I googled around and found only this post: http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/macports- users/2006-October/000405.html but this post remains unanswered. Is there a nice, clean, quick way to resolve this issue? I have attached logs for relevant 'port install/upgrade' commands. This time, it was in xmlFreeDoc() (I think). I downgraded libxml2 and libxslt to: * libxml2 @2.6.16_0 * libxslt @1.1.12_0 That solved my new problem. Note that the libxml2 version there is the same version that Apple ships (try `/usr/bin/xml2-config --version`). I researched the cause. It is due to current API change in mysql libraries, introduced by mysql version 5.1.23-rc. It seems mysql and PHP communities are discussing whose bug it is (behind the curtains): * http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=34655 * http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=44137&edit=1 You can search the net with the file name `mysqli_api.c` and relevant parts of the error message to come up with other communities stumbling on this. Except also build problems with perl with mysql5 (according to mysql bug report ticket page)? To reproduce with macports, you need to install mysql5-devel. mysql5 is older version and probably does not cause problems?? It failed. I renamed to what is should be and tried to install. It also failed. I added the port as a dependancy and the port installed. I think that the port:xorg-libX11 is required. As I mentioned on the list, I had tested these ports before submitting. The version of OS X was different and the dependancy was not required - at least I didn't think it was. There was [http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/macports- dev/2008-February/004298.html a 3-day discussion on macports-dev] about this at the beginning of February 2008, and since that topic has been dormant for weeks now, I think that thread can be used as the basis for what to write in the guide. Note that much of the thread includes suggestions for how -devel ports *should* be handled in the future, with various disagreements about that, but that we should right now already document the way -devel ports *are* handled: * -devel ports are unstable and are intended for testing only, not for production use, and can't be guaranteed to work correctly -- not that we guarantee any port to work correctly, but these are even less-guaranteed * -devel ports are usually newer versions than the corresponding non- devel port, though sometimes they're older * when the development series being followed by the -devel port culminates in a new stable released version, the corresponding non-devel port is updated to that released version, while the -devel port remains at the last development version * if you have the -devel version installed, and a newer non-devel version is released, "`port`" won't tell you about this via e.g. "`port outdated`"; you have to find out yourself * -devel ports install software in the same places as their non-devel counterparts, so that -devel ports can satisfy a dependency via the same files as the equivalent non-devel port, with the side-effect that you cannot have both the -devel and the non-devel port activated at the same time * -devel ports and their non-devel counterparts should be kept as similar as possible, ideally by a single maintainer or by two maintainers who work together to apply common changes to both ports. "`diff -u foo/Portfile foo-devel/Portfile`" should not show any irrelevant differences like whitespace changes or variants that were added to just one port but which would make just as much sense also added to the other port, etc. * ports should not depend on a -devel port if that software could just as well use the non-devel port * ports that depend on ports where both -devel and non-devel versions exist should depend on them in such a way that either port will satisfy the dependency. For example, instead of depending on "`port:mysql5`" (mysql5 would satisfy that dependency but mysql5-devel would not), depend on "`path:${prefix}/bin/mysql_config5`" (both mysql5 and mysql5-devel would satisfy that dependency). * possibly more; check the thread -- I didn't read through it all again right now Documentation of -devel ports was requested again in [comment:ticket:14387:3 #14387]. -- Ticket URL: MacPorts Ports system for Mac OS From trac at macosforge.org Sat Mar 1 22:42:20 2008 From: trac at macosforge.org (MacPorts) Date: Sun, 02 Mar 2008 06:42:20 -0000 Subject: [MacPorts] #14387: php5 +apache2 +mysql fails to build In-Reply-To: <049.a636a1d83593e5bcf122515272322d55@macosforge.org> References: <049.a636a1d83593e5bcf122515272322d55@macosforge.org> Message-ID: <058.e9cf646c1f8c916f7659022c98fc65b4@macosforge.org> #14387: php5 +apache2 +mysql fails to build ----------------------------------+----------------------------------------- Reporter: paulbeard at gmail.com | Owner: ryandesign at macports.org Type: defect | Status: new Priority: Normal | Milestone: Port Bugs Component: ports | Version: 1.6.0 Resolution: | Keywords: ----------------------------------+----------------------------------------- Comment (by ryandesign at macports.org): Thanks for the info.
