This issue is quite annoying especially when your user id contains a 'b' :) I found that this issue was reported on the CalendarServer-users mailing list in April 2008 [1]. Unfortunately this bug does not seem to have been fixed as I am running a fresh SVN checkout [2] A patch [3] was proposed in reply to this email fixing this issue. Applying it solved this 'b' key issue problem. That branch uses twisted/python/reflect.py which in turn tries to import modules from the twisted that is installed system-wide instead of the twisted/branches/dav- acl-1608-4 branch that was donwloaded by the `run -s` script. See the attached files for the errors. In short, branches/dav- acl-1608-4/python/reflect.py tries to import /usr/lib/python2.5/site- packages/twisted/plugins/cred_anonymous.py instead of branches/dav- acl-1608-4/twisted/plugins/cred_anonymous.py. This causes problems because the system-wide Twisted is 8.1.0. The cred plugins of 8.1.0 depend on twisted.cred.strcred but the two year old dav-acl-1608-4 doesn't have those. If you *know* the __uuid__ then all is well. But, most people know LDAP identity information. I think it might help to document this here, in the sharing guides, so its clear you have to configure it. Typically, this is done by running the 'Directory Utility' to add an LDAPv3 server, or an Apple Directory. My goal is to have a module that works on *your* setup without any tuning apart from the configuration in caldavd.plist. I'm doing it because I couldn't figure out how Brandon's solution is working or what his schema is. The main problem I've been tackling is: how to provide a flexible way to interpret the LDAP data as records of different types? For example, there are several ways to implement groups. I've designed a solution to specify all this data in caldavd.plist, assuming the most standard schemas are used. Basically, for each record type, I give the base DN and the name of the attribute for the RDN. Then there's quite a lot of glue code to implement the interface. I'm attaching a diff file with my current implementation. It's a work in progress and I'm aware that several things need fixing, especially replace hardcoded stuff by configuration, implement the "proxy" stuff, and avoid synchonous operations (I do not really need caching at this time). I would really appreciate comments on my approach: - is the configuration understandable (see the changes in config.py)? - would that work with your LDAP setup? If there is positive feedback, I'm willing to improve the code so that it can be integrated in calendarserver.
