DCS Configuration Manual?

Hello-- Looking through the archives and all over, the best thing I could find for help configuring the DCS is this: http://www.macworld.com/article/132736/caldavserver.html?loomia_ow=t0:s0:a3… It's a bit dated and has nothing about the CardDAV server now included with the CalDAV server. Is there anything out there that talks about how to configure these pieces? I need the CalDAV server's more advanced settings than discussed in the above article, like how to setup sending invites to others not on this server. Also, I would like to start on the CardDAV but see nothing out about that one and how to get started with it. I assumed some similarities between the configuration for it and the CalDAV, but haven't been able to initiate and connect to it yet. Any links to manuals, installation guides, etc. would be most appreciated! Thanks! Corey

No, on powerpc. But thanks for the explanation, since it helped me with another problem I'm now having. I'll describe it here just in case someone else bumps into this. After setting the $PYTHONPATH to include /opt/calendarserver/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/twext/web2 (besides the already included /opt/calendarserver/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages) another version was (apparently) used, and the help message was better: File "/opt/calendarserver/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/twext/web2/iweb.py", line 152, in from twisted.web.iweb import IRequest as IOldRequest ImportError: No module named iweb Aha. It was not looking for twext.web2.iweb, but for twisted.web.iweb. locate shows that I have 3 locations of twisted: /opt/calendarserver/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/twisted /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/twisted /usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/twisted Unfortunately, twisted.web.iweb is in the third path, while python is looking in the first path (since it found a twisted subfolder there). I had hoped to keep the installation calenderserver out of /usr, but it now seems I either have to copy (of symlink) files back and forth, or merge the site-package folders. I'll do that tomorrow (it's late here), but at least this is not very hard. Thanks for the help. Freek

Getting started under Linux

Hi, I'm trying to get starting running a carddav server under Linux, but got stuck. I installed all prerequisites just fine (after a little fight with the run command, which -oh horrors- decided to completely bypass my package manager and -even more horrors- install things outside the calenderserver folder. What happend to the good old ./configure or setup.py scripts?) The ./run -I command does not seem to work: ./run -I /opt/calendarserver did * create a folder /opt/calendarserver/bin with a copy of all tools from /usr/bin and /usr/local/bin (huh?) * abort with an error rsync: change_dir "/usr/caldavd" failed: No such file or directory (2) (huh again?) So I decided to just go for it, create a file conf/carddavd-dev.plist and try: ./run -a This seems to exec the following: ./bin/carddavd -X -L -f ./conf/carddavd-dev.plist -P caldav -t Combined Which in turns seems to exec: python /usr/local/bin/twistd -n carddav -f ./conf/carddavd-dev.plist \ -o ProcessType=Combined -o ErrorLogEnabled=False This fails with a "ImportError: No module named opendirectory", which is evident: opendirectory is not available under Linux, and was disabled in conf file in the first place. It seems that the conf/cardavd-dev.plist file is never read anyway, since simply running /usr/local/bin/twistd Gives the exact same result. I'm totally new to twisted, so I turned on logging, which according to the twistd man page is: /usr/local/bin/twistd -l - This time, no ImportError, but rather: Failed to load application: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'twistd.tap' I presume that twisted searches for a *.tap, *.tax or *.tas file in the current directory, and executes that application description. However, I can not find any such file in the calendarserver directory (there is this calendarserver/tap folder though). However, I'm at loss why it behaves differently with logging on or off. Just to emphasize my noob status, let me ask the obvious question: how do I start the server and have it read the config file? Any help is highly appreciated. Thank, Freek

iCalendar splitting utility

Hi to all, I have a large Calendar in iCal which takes too long to initially synchronize to any new client and the last few days an new problem came up with iCal on an iOS 3 Device not syncing some events. That's why i decided to split up that large calendar at a given Date in the hope things will turn out better. The problem is, i cannot find any suitable utility for that. I could get every single event from the calendarserver, sort it and import it back to iCal. But iCal will not import that many events, that's about 2500. I could feed it with 100 events every try but that is a silly word to do. A better solution would be a utility to split up that one ics file iCal exports into two files, one containing the newer and the other containing the older events. Any ideas on that? Another question: Is it possible to get the revision of an System installed calendarserver that came frome a trunk checkout? iMIP with external email service

Hello, I configured DCS on Linux with my ISP's email servers as primary iMIP service. Fetching and sending email is not a problem. However, as soon as an event is created, the ORGANIZER token in the event has a event token added as address tag in the DCS's email address. For example, if my DCS email account has the address: calendar.server(a)provider.com Then the event gets out with an ORGANIZER value like this: ORGANIZER;CN=Valentin Koch;EMAIL=realemail@wherever.com:mailto:calendar.server+f623d91a-6c96-41dc-a6d6-bb0b2549eef8@provider.com The same mailto line appears in the ATTENDEE value. The problem is that my ISP does not allow address tags and therefore, any reply to my invitations cannot be delivered. I already commented out the Reply-To field but most calendar clients extract the return address out of the .ics attachment. Is there a way to disable the event token or would DCS/iMIP not work without this being in the email address? Thanks for any suggestions. Valentin
