Isn't the latest 4.1? Is there any reason NOT to package that up for the latest debian/ubuntu?

Feel free to go ahead and make such a package if you like. The only reason not to package it up is if you're looking for a version you can just use and don't want to do a bunch of packaging work, but for many that is quite a compelling reason ;-). -glyph
