CardDAV Support AddressBook OSX 10.6.4
I am wondering if there is anything special that needs to be changed to get OSX AddressBook desktop client to properly use the CardDAV server. I did have to edit the .plist file on my computer because Addressbook desktop client kept screwing up the path. IPhone with OS 4 (deployed the config through iphone configuration utility) is working perfectly and AddressBook desktop client will sync with the data input by the iphone. Anything added or modified by Addressbook desktop client doesn't post to the server though (i checked in the data folder). Below are two interesting lines that come off the server log when trying to add or modify PUT /addressbooks/__uids__/djackson/addressbook/6AE69D7F-CB3B-414A-9EE7-2AF6B6A69F60-ABSPlugin.vcf HTTP/1.1 2010-08-02 10:49:47-0400 [-] [caldav-0] [-] [twistedcaldav.method.put_addressbook_common#error] u"error: illegal escape sequence: '\\:'" 1) Why is it adding the "ABSPlugin" into the vcf file 2) The illegal escape is only being posted when Addressbook desktop client tries to add or modify. During a sync or startup it doesn't show that error.
well it works just fine for me... I've made no low level changes to either my mac or iphone and addressbook syncing just works... What build version of DCS are you using here? and what are you running this on? Cheers, --Guy On 2 Aug 2010, at 16:02, Dustin Jackson wrote:

Version 3 trunk. Running it on standard OSX machine. I only configured the calddav-dev.plist and use the ./run command. Which shouldn't matter since Iphone works fine When setting up addressbook client it fails during the auto discovery phase. The configuration plist file had to be changed in order for it to connect. Do you get the same ABSPlugin on your vcf files on the server. On Aug 2, 2010, at 11:04 AM, Guy wrote:

I ran into this bug when running trunk, and I found an interesting "fix" I was testing and developing on 10.6, and since ":" cannot be escaped on HFS+, it fails. But when I moved my calendarserver install to my Linux server, where ":" is no problem, it began working immediately. -Greg On 8/2/2010 10:23 AM, Dustin Jackson wrote:

So, I still can't get the Address book client to work...I have tried the setup on two different machine. I have three iphones all connecting. All of them worked by setting them up through Iphone Configuration utility. All info input by IPhones show up on desktop client. Anything added or modified by desktop client will not update to server. Also the iphones pick up the global addressbook while desktop client doesn't....Anyone have any ideas? What was the revision of calendar server you checked out? --Guy On Aug 06, 2010, at 20:29, Dustin Jackson wrote:

Sorry for lack of info...Im probably in over my head. I used svn checkout "svn.calendarserver.org/repository/calendarserver/CalendarServer/trunk" which should have pulled 3.0. CalDAV is working perfectly for multiple users and on both desktop and iphones. So i think i have it configured properly. Also when i run the server (using ./run so i can trouble shoot) i see it "checking out" updated revisions. I am temped to reinstall but the fact that iphones work perfectly makes me think its the setup with Address Book desktop client. Every time i configure the account, it just hangs until eventually it prompts with a message saying it can't find the settings. I read online about editing the .plist file for address book desktop. When i look at the file after failed setup, it appears that the server address gets screwed up. When i fix it to the right port and path it connects and syncs. But trying to add or modify i get 2010-08-02 10:49:47-0400 [-] [caldav-0] [-] [twistedcaldav.method.put_addressbook_common#error] u"error: illegal escape sequence: '\\:'" On Aug 6, 2010, at 3:31 PM, Guy wrote:

That would have pulled the latest development version, which is not necessarily a release...unless they're using a very non-standard subversion repository layout. --- Chris Cleeland

Correct. The above is a trunk URL. 3.0 is still in development; all releases are under CalendarServer/tags/release. There are a lot of good changes between 2.4 and trunk, but as always, trunk should be used with caution, as the edge does become bloody from time to time. -dre
