Support for not sharing/delegating ToDo's?
Hi All, Is support for Not delegating ToDo's (and alarms) via iCal Server in place? iCal 3 does not seems to provide a way to specify this, and before hitting Apple with a huge hammer for not doing this on a server-grade implementation (that is already there for Publish function...!) I would just like to ask here... ;-) Jakob Peterhänsel "Be a part of the Love Generation - carry a smile, not a gun." - JP, May 2006 Email: jakob@hjemme.dk AIM: Marook Phone: +45 30787715

Are you asking about the user delegation feature (ability of other people to see your data) or scheduling? -- Cyrus Daboo
Hi Cyrus, I'm asking about support in general. I can see it's not in the iCal GUI (and wonder why), so I guess it boils down to: Is it possible on the server side? (and latter in iCal?) I can't speak to what iCal may or may not do in the future. But right now you can do a lot on the server with privileges - but you will have to manipulate that with some other client (the command line tool we made available last week would suffice). In the case of delegates, what you would do to set this up is simply create a calendar to contain any events or to-dos that you don't want the delegates to see. Then apply a WebDAV ACL to that calendar collection that denies the delegates the right to read/write (effectively overriding the normal delegate right). Anything stored in that calendar is then totally private. -- Cyrus Daboo
Hi, Well.. that seems like a long way around using a simple 'local' calendar in iCal... right? ;-) The goal is to keep peoples stuff ordered, and if they have a 'Work' server based calendar, it would be nice to have todo's in it. But since there is no way of denying Delegates to see todo's, that is then not possible. It seems users are forced to: LOCAL - Private (iSync/iPhone default) - Work ToDo's SERVER - My Name - - Work events So, where do I start to ask ER's? iCal Server, iCal Client, or both? ;-) Jakob Peterhänsel "Be a part of the Love Generation - carry a smile, not a gun." - JP, May 2006 Email: jakob@hjemme.dk AIM: Marook Phone: +45 30787715 On 31/03/2008, at 22.08, Cyrus Daboo wrote:

Actually you can also apply ACLs to individual items inside a calendar, so you could get by with the one calendar but explicitly deny access to each to-do that is created. Again there is no client UI to do that, so its not a practical solution right now.
LOCAL - Private (iSync/iPhone default) - Work ToDo's SERVER - My Name - - Work events
That's wonit work so well if you want to see those to-do's on other machines - you will then be forced to rely on sync instead.
So, where do I start to ask ER's? iCal Server, iCal Client, or both?
File this against the client. I am sure they will bug us if there is anything more needed on the server. -- Cyrus Daboo
