So, like a few others, I have recently pulled down the code and updated darwinbuild to compile/install on Sierra with the latest XCode (8.3.2). I’m wondering how the others would like to proceed so that we’re not doing duplicate efforts? Thanks, Tony Piselli tpisellijr(a)mac.com

SDKs

Hi there! Does anyone still read this list? Anyone know anything about the way Platforms and SDKs work on newer versions of Xcode? So I got DarwinBuild built on 10.12 Sierra. I have Xcode 8.3.1. I made a copy of DarwinBuild's installXcode32 and modified it to use the new paths that Xcode uses these days. So the script runs fine, and symlinks all the stuff it thinks it ought to to make a new platform bundle and SDK within Xcode, but something's not right. xcodebuild throws errors like this: xcodebuild: error: Initialization failed. Reason: Required content for platform <darwinbuild_build_stamp> is missing. I am pretty sure it has to do with the Info.plist in /Applications/Xcode.app/Content/Developer/Platforms/<darwinbuild_build_stamp>.platform/Info.plist and the SDKSettings.plist in the appropriate subdirectory, but I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what it keys off of and what causes it to recognize a bundle as a valid Platform and SDK or not. Anyone know the minimum requirements for creating a valid Platform and SDK? Many thanks! -Ben

Downloading sources for 9G55

Hi, I need to get the sources for either the latest release or the last release that darwinbuild used. I initialized build 9G55. I forgot how to get the sources and extract is it a shell script or just command? I built DarwinBuild for Sierra. I had to comment out some debug information and change two obsolete methods. darwinbuild on elcapitan or previous clean versions installed before with macports

Hi darwiinbuild-dev, I tried to install darwinbuilder with macports without success. I’m running on 10.11.4. Beta and the OS installed isn’t fresh. data’s full from my settings and so on. Should you advice me instead o start with a fresh mac os x installed but which osx version is optimum to upgrade to darwin 9 or 10 ? Or could I install upgrade on my main El Capitan 10.11.4 where I have all my data’s works. Thank you for reply Furax mantra-mind(a)digitalshaman.fr

build plist files

Hi! I'm not sure anybody watch this list any longer, but I thought I should give it a try. It seems that the darwin build plist files are not maintained anymore. Am I supposed to compose them myself? Or is the latest darwin 14.0 sources incomplete nowadays? This location contains build plists up till darwin 12.0 (osx 10.8) http://svn.macosforge.org/repository/darwinbuild/trunk/plists/ I'm asking mostly for educational purpose. My OS X Internals book has been lying on the shelf for awhile, but I recently made it through chapter 8 and wanted to build the xnu. Of course, reference sources are available from a variety of places, ranging from apple to github, but it would be good to have a working build environment. Thanks for any hints! MVH/Roger

Hi, Changeset 1045 (as well as current svn trunk) points to http://src.macosforge.org/Roots/12A269/ which does not appear to exist. Does someone knows if Mac OS 10.9 Open Source releases have been added? Best regards JLD

Issues with Xcode 4.4, post-11C74 sources?

Hi all, I've been trying to use DarwinBuild on a machine with Xcode 4.4. Since the Developer directory is now in a different location (and has been since Xcode 4.3 — it's in wherever `xcode-select --print-path` says it is), darwinbuild falls over hard. Will this be fixed at some point? I'd fix it, but the lack of activity with DarwinBuild has me worried that the project might be dying or dead... Also, I noticed that there has been no activity adding plists for post-11C74 versions of OS X. Also, Mac OS 10.8 sources seem to be missing a lot of stuff that used to be available, such as most of libsecurity. will this be eventually released? Thanks! --David

Corrupt 8G1165 Binary Roots?

Hi, Well the subject isn't right, the roots aren't corrupt. But taking for example cctools http://src.macosforge.org/Roots/8G1165/cctools.root.tar.gz none of the (fat) executables will run on Darwin 8.0.1(x86); trying to do so results variously in bus error illegal instruction Bad executable (or shared library) I did check a few of them with otool to see what libraries they call for, and those are in place as they should be. The issue seems to be with the i386 portion of the fat runfiles; the PPC portions work fine on a G3 iMac running OSX 10.4.11. I'm trying to put together a Darwin 8.11.1 system; I'm content to use all binary roots to do so. And, I'm trying to do what I can with zero capital and oodles of free time. I'm still pretty new at this (post-68k era MacOS stuff), so any clues would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, -daiyu
