Hello everybody! For those of you who don't know me because you're rather new here, I would like to introduce myself: I am one of the three {Darwin,Mac}Ports old... team members holding the "honorary" title of "Project Manager" who has been too swamped by Real Life these last months to manage to get any productive work done on this great project, hoping that'll change in the not too distant future. I'll tell you though that at one point I did come to be known as a quite active contributor, so there! :-P To the new and old blood that's still with us, thank you so much for your continued drive and enthusiasm put into this project, we wouldn't be walking on our own two feet if it weren't for you! Now, however, I have been lurking on this list and have kept an eye over a couple of issues which I believe warrant a new minor release of our infrastructure, 1.4 I propose. As I am not exactly called Mr. Current Affairs at this point in time, I would like to call for some feedback on what should be considered for inclusion in the new release, but I think I can at least propose a small starter list: 1) Final and long overdue DarwinPorts --> MacPorts migration in our base code, carried out by Randall Wood if he so volunteers; 2) Migration to SourForge's new mirrors redirection mechanism in our trunk/base/src/port1.0/resources/fetch/mirros_sites.tcl file, with the addition of maybe two or three hardcoded fail-safe mirrors as suggested in the mail forwarded by Kevin Ballard; 3) The addition of a MacPorts mirror list in the same file with a starting single entry pointing to a distfiles/ (or any other better idea) location in our svn repo, where we can start loading selected distfiles for projects missing them at their main sites. Such list could pave the way for a future MacPorts mirroring system, as adding new entries to it would be transparent to users and Portfiles, the latter only having to use "master_sites macports:foo:bar" to leverage our mirrors just as they currently do SourceForge's; 4) Any other differences between trunk/base and /brances/release_1_3, to be integrated into a future release_1_4 branch, including but not limited to: -) the unarchive --> archive rollback of my earlier "fix", performed by Daniel Luke; -) Kevin Ballard's fast_load improvements; -) a new portfile.7 man page, I think...? -) anything else I'm missing...? Anyone care to diff the two code bases? ;-) Please feel free to append to this list whatever you feel should be included in the new release branch, lets brainstorm at least a bit over all the ideas. In any case, I would like to point out it wouldn't be too wise to try to fix the entire world with 1.4, I have myself voiced some rather large and therefore mid-term goals for the project as a whole and have also heard of some interesting ones from other developers, but needless to say all those warrant wider discussion and consensus among us all, so lets try to keep this release a small and focused one, comprising only necessary and urgent fixes. World domination may come later on! ;-) We used to have a pretty good and detailed page detailing our release process, most kindly created by James Berry, up in our old Wiki, but I don't believe it survived the migration so I'll see if I can coordinate with Kevin Van Vechten to resurrect it. Once I do I would like to call for someone (someone*s* ;-) volunteering to give me a hand putting together the release, as there are a few things to keep an eye over and I don't think mine alone will suffice. Once we get this ball rolling I'll post a release candidate I would like all of use to test as extensively as possible, so keep your eyes open for future announcements, please. New Port: gtk2-extra

Hi! I'm new to this list; and so I don't know what the actual procedure for introducing a new port is. Nevertheless, I am attaching the Portfile for x11/gtk2-extra. GtkExtra is a set of useful widgets for Gtk+. The port for gtk-extra (corresponding to Gtk+1) was already present; I just had to change the version numbers and update the MD5. If Matthew is not available or is unwilling to maintain this port; I would be glad to do so. [PATCH] Postfix port

Hi all, this is my first mail here, please correct if is not the right place to post this kind of informations. The current port of postfix doesn't work well, so I did some work trying to make it ok: Attached are: - a simple patch to postfix-script so it can correctly recognise folders permissions - a patch to the portfile which: * add cyrus support (this must be done explicitely in 2.3.X) * try to compile postfix against _system_ openssl and _macports'_ sasl2 * bump postfix version to 2.3.4 There's one unresolved issue, no matter if I explicitly compile it against system or macports version of openssl, I have this warning: ------ postfix/smtp[24927]: warning: run-time library vs. compile-time header version mismatch: OpenSSL 0.9.8 may not be compatible with OpenSSL 0.9.7 ------ Which means it compiles against system version of openssl and uses macports' one at run time. As a result I can't start a tls connection with any mailserver. After installation 2 files must be deleted (I don't know which is the best way to do this in the Portfile): /opt/local/var//spool/postfix/maildrop/.turd_postfix /opt/local/var//spool/postfix/public/.turd_postfix Please let me know what do you think about this, and forgive me if something is wrong because this is my first attempt to modify a port. svn macports - can not find pextib

Sorry if this problem was reported already. If not, I'll report my finding. With fresh installation of svn MacPorts (1.40), sudo port sync or port selfupdate reports error message that pextlib 1.0 can not be found. While 1.3.2 works well. This problem wont occur if you install 1.40 over existed version. It's with svn source of yesterday.

Defaulting --tclpackage to be inside of --prefix

If you don't specify --tclpackage, then it may end up being /Library/Tcl or /System/Library/Tcl. I sometimes do multiple installs of MacPorts on the same box and it would be nice to have each MacPorts install keep its files in its own prefix. Also, if you wish to tar up an installed MacPorts, you don't also have to find stuff in /Library or /System. So can we change the default to be something like $prefix/lib/tcl/macports? MacFUSE portfile

r21623 is a seemingly innocuous commit, but it provides MacFUSE support. Hooray! Go read the commit message on that thing if you want the details. It's a real monster of a message, and provides all the juicy details you want. If you want to add more filesystems, take a gander at the sshfs port. It should provide the template you need. If you have any questions, just ask me. Probably tomorrow I will take a look at adding some of the more popular ones, starting with ntfs-3g. That said, I'm actually pretty unsure as to what filesystems are popular outside of sshfs and ntfs-3g, so if you have any suggestions, send an email my way. Word of warning: if you have fusefs installed, and you've mounted a FUSE filesystem at least once during this power-on session, uninstalling will leave the kext loaded into kernelspace. This is not, strictly speaking, *dangerous*, but it might cause some confusion if you proceed to then install a different version (confusion being the old one is still loaded, so the new one won't be). The simple solution is to reboot, the complicated solution is to make sure no FUSE filesystems are mounted and run `sudo kextunload -b com.google.filesystems.fusefs`. When MacFUSE puts out another release and I update the portfile. I'll probably stick a message in there somewhere instructing people to reboot if they're upgrading their fusefs installation. Ideally this would actually go into a post-deactivate phase, but since such a phase doesn't actually exist at the moment, the best place is probably a post-activate. Theoretically it could even query to see if the kext is loaded in pre-activate, and spit out the message in post- activate telling the user that they have to reboot. Hey Daniel! Kevin started implementing my suggestion of a macports mirror list, with an svn /distfiles directory as the location for the distfiles we're going to carry. Any chance you could move the stuff in your /users/dluke directory to the new location once 1.4 is out? You can have your own user dir inside distfiles or toss everything inside general/, where the macports master_sites entry will look by default if no sub-directory key is provided in the Portfile. pythonw missing under py-wxpython 2.8.1.1?

I've been trying to get an environment that lets me run python & the wxwidgets - more recent stuff than what comes on my Mac. Some of my problems have been logged under bug ticket #11165 at macports.org. I'm trying a new approach. I got rid of my whole dports, and am starting over. dports (and a selfupdate) installed fine, it seems. Then I did "sudo port install py-wxpython" which seemed to install everything without any hiccups. But "pythonw" is missing. And that is (or used to be) what I used to run my script. New entry in mirror_sites

As per a suggestions by jmpp, I've added a new mirror_sites entry for macports. This comes in two forms. The first is a url for <http:// svn.macosforge.org/repository/macports/distfiles/>. An example usage of this would be distname servlet2.3-jsp1.2-tc4.x master_sites macports:jberry That would fetch the file that's currently in /distfiles/jberry To make things easy I also added a :nosubdir url at /distfiles/ general/, so you can drop tarballs in the /distfiles/general/ directory and access them like such: distname some-random-file.tar.gz master_sites macports Please don't drop tarballs in the /distfiles/ directory directly, though. Unfortunately until 1.4 is released we can't really use this in existing Portfiles.
