Can someone please provide a documented working example of using fs- traverse to traverse a worksrcpath and perform a reinplace operation on every Makefile? I'm a bit lost at the moment. Variants consistency

Variants' names should be consistent, I don't think it's the case now: for example, libsdl-framework has a nostatic variant, whereas the expat's one is named no_static. It would be nice to have some kind of naming guidelines for this kind of things. Why not an equivalent of the use.desc file of Gentoo's Portage package manager which would provide some kind of global variants? N_Ox.

Cached configure?

Hi, I was wondering if there is a way to force ports to use the -C option when running configure. It would speed up the compilation process a whole lot, and there's no reason for configure to run the same tests over and over, especially during the installing of a single port. Thanks, - Greg

Task #11664: cleaning *FLAGS in Portfiles

Hi all, Since 1.4.1, MacPorts automatically fills *FLAGS with -I${prefix}/ include and -L${prefix}/lib. We can remove a lot of unnecessary lines from portfiles. I suggest that every maintainer clean their own ports and check that they still compile fine (preferably with the -t option). You can figure out which ports to clean with: port file maintainer:<your maintainer email address> | xargs grep FLAGS Besides, other clfags/ldflags/cppflags/cxxflags can now be passed with: configure.cflags-append "some value" Paul

startupitem.inetdcompat or newbie base hacking!

I think it would be desirable to have a startupitem that supports inetdcompatibility in MacPorts. It seems to me it wouldn't be that hard since the heavy lifting was already done in MP 1.2. So I've hacked the portstartupitem.tcl file for some new startupitems and I want to test it so I tried replacing the current copy in ${prefix} with the modified file but it isn't recognizing my new variables. What is the proper way to test a new portstartupitem.tcl file? Mark

default problem

Hi I'm upgrading the gnustep portgroup to match the new gnutep-make 2.0 and the new MacPorts code and come across this problems : The command default configure.pre_args "--prefix=${prefix} ${gnustep.cc} [set_gnustep_make]" does not work. I can use "set" instead of "default" but is that a big deal ?. yves

--disable-nls?

Hello, I was wondering: why this ugly --disable-nls configure argument is hardcoded in so much portfiles? There should be a "nls" variant deleting this of configure.args. Localization is nice and already available in a lot of packages. I think getting ride of it is a big loss.

Changed log message not showing up in Trac

I changed the log message of r24131 after committing, but the old message is still showing up in Trac: http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/macports/changeset/24131 Does Trac perhaps import the log message into its own database on post-commit, and not re-import upon post-revprop-change? Can that be fixed?

Hi Guido, Nice sleuthing. I came to the same conclusion last night after following up a similar report from another user. I've written to Paul Guyot about the issue, who has the honor of having written the changeset in question, but the blessing to not have written the ugly hack that stumbled on it. Hopefully we'll get this cleaned up soon. In the mean time, you can turn off archive mode in your ports.conf file.
