I've just installed xercesc without the patch and it works. Are you sure your tarball isn't broken?

I reinstalled xerces after a clean --all and it worked! Seems like I had a bad tarball earlier (it had the exact name, and it was shared from Gentoo's distfiles directory). Sorry for the false ticket, I've closed it. Best Regards, -- Anant
