Just to be sure I deleted MacPorts as documented in the FAQ. I then did a new MacPorts install using the downloadable .dmg. Everything worked fine, the installation and then downloading packages like teTex. But the man page for port cannot be displayed. Error message ------ Cannot open the message catalog "man" for locale "de_DE.UTF-8" (NLSPATH="<none>") No manual entry for port ------ I receive the same error message with every other man page that is not available so the strange error message is propably because of Leopard having problems with other languages then English. But still there should be a man page for port. Displaying other man pages that are available works. I have an Intel Mac and I am now on 10.5.1. My login shell is tcsh. Error: Unable to open port: Error evaluating variant This is one example, many ports (for example GiNaC and cln) also have this problem. I mentioned the problem a year ago in the macports-dev list (subject: "compatibility symbolic links for ncurses and ncursesw"), but no-one replied (see also bug #12605 reported by someone else). I sometimes get zsh crashes under Mac OS X when it has been sleeping for a long time (e.g. after a long ssh session to some other machine), just before the prompt is displayed (I do not have this problem under Debian). I wonder if the cause can be this build problem. Finally I did 'port install xfig', which built ok. There was a problem with app-defaults: ---> Activating xfig 3.2.5_1 Error: Target org.macports.activate returned: Image error: /usr/X11/lib/X11/app-defaults already exists and does not belong to a registered port. Unable to activate port xfig. Error: Status 1 encountered during processing. which I manually corrected by adding the Fig and Fig-color files to app- defaults folder manually. When I run xfig, I can draw lines and pull down the Help menu, but if I pull down he File or other menus, it crashes: xfig color = '#ffcccc' xfig3.2.5: SIGBUS signal trapped xfig: figure empty or not modified - exiting Abort trap It sure looks to me like a library version skew problem.
