Support for some can be disabled (for example, I didn't care to install postgresql or db44) but might be autodetected by libgda's configure script. For example, an (older, incompatible) version of BDB is installed in /usr on Leopard at least, preventing libgda from building. In order to control the circumstances of building, database support should be explicitly disabled and re-enabled as necessary for variants.
