However, when a pseudo-port that queries the registry is used, `action_upgrade` ends up passing the variants with which the port is currently installed. This can cause upgrade to behave incorrectly, and can even cause failures due to conflicting variants in dependencies. To get the Portfiles and update the system, run: sudo port -v selfupdate Because the installation just happened, people are unlikely to already have /opt/local/bin in their $PATH, and so that command fails with 'sudo: port: command not found'. The problem arises because the module name was declared to be "APC" in the php5extension.setup call, and then the port name was overridden to be php5-apc.
