Previously they have been able to use python_select to choose between python versions. Now this has become a part of the port command they are unable to do this without installing macports. But it always stopped at building gcc44. Apologizes for that. Besides, the new 1.8.0 Portfile add support for PostGreSQL 9.0, Python 2.7 and OpenCL. I have not dropped obviously obsolete options (like support for legacy versions of PGSQL and Python), though.
