I am running Mac OS 10.7.5 and using XCode 4.6.3. Looking at the relevant log files (which I hope to remember to attach to this ticket), I see that configure is failing when running a code snippet that wants to include <syscall.h>. It also reworks the gcc variants to address issues with mixing c++ runtimes, by no longer using these variants to set the c/c++ compilers. They are now only used to set the fortran compiler. The cocoa variant is now update to use compiler black and fall back lists to make sure a compatible clang compiler is always used.
