Recommended upstream practice is to offer "python3' as a synonym for the current preferred Python 3 version, "python2" for the current preferred Python 2 version, and, during the long transition period from Python 2 to Python 3, recommend "python" be the same as "python2" but eventually moving to "python3". It introduces python2 and python3 binaries in python ports' selection files. The PEP suggests that for now ''python'' command point to the same target as python2. This leads to an issue with current port selection feature: if python34 has a "-" value for the corresponding "$prefix/bin/python2" target in its select files entry it means that the "$prefix/bin/python2" symlink gets removed when the port is selected. What we would like instead is that the "$prefix/bin/python2" would be left linking to an active python2X port, if there's any available, or should it rather be left at system's python executable? There's a more complicated case in which ports python26 and python27 are both active and the system has to pick one. It could be handled by selecting the most recent version but again this is could be against user's specific needs. Splitting the select groups in python2 and python3 wouldn't work well since there would be an overlap of the common entries. There's somehow need to mix the selections. Here are the steps I took: Install Xcode Open Xcode 1)Type xcode-select --install 2) Install Macports on Mac https://www.macports.org/install.php Click on “OS X 10.9 Mavericks” for automatic download. 3) Type “sudo port install hdf5” 4) Type “sudo port install netcdf” 5) Type “sudo port install netcdf-cxx” for C++ interface 6) Type “sudo port install netcdf-fortran” for Fortran interface 7) Type “sudo port install libgcc” 8) Type “sudo port install gcc47” Couldn’t successful load “atlas” package using either gcc49 or gcc48. The new version also works with LLVM 3.5, so you might want to update that dependency as well. I tested it on OS X 10.9.4 with both LLVM 3.4.2 and 3.5.0, so either of them should work fine.
