Yes and no: No, this particular error should no longer occur, because it was a bug in gcc-4.0, and MacPorts now uses apple-gcc-4.2 by default on Tiger instead of gcc-4.0. But at the same time, because of that change, a universal build of cairo and most other ports is not possible anymore on Tiger because apple- gcc-4.2 does not support i386/ppc universal builds. (It claims to support ppc/ppc64 and i386/x86_64 universal builds.) The configure I used is: ./configure --prefix=/Users/wen/macport --with-no-root-privileges --with- install-user=wen --with-macports-user=wen --with-install-group=nogroup after installing MacPort, I tried to use it to port cmake and qt5, but it can not find cmake: hollyhock:bin wen6$ port install cmake Error: Port cmake not found It happens to others too, qt5, vim... This seems to be a general problem with GTK+ applications. As a test I installed xchat, which correctly renders text, and xchat2 which shows the same problem as claws-mail. I just tried and it built fine for me with 64-bit. The resulting binary seems to work fine. {{{ $ file /opt/local/bin/clisp /opt/local/bin/clisp: Mach-O 64-bit x86_64 executable }}} I propose to enable this architecture in the port. Any further tests we can run to verify this is correct?
