#48178: circular dependency apple-gcc42/xpm, and many others ----------------------+-------------------------------- Reporter: herzog@… | Owner: macports-tickets@… Type: defect | Status: new Priority: Normal | Milestone: Component: ports | Version: 2.3.3 Keywords: | Port: apple-gcc42 ----------------------+-------------------------------- Machine: PowerBook G4, 15" PowerBook5,4 CPU-Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1) OS Version: 10.4.11 Xcode verson: 2.4.1 Problem: ======== The attempt to install xemacs, sudo port install xemacs failes since the port 'apple-gcc42' is required, which in turn requires 'xpm' The install procedure stops with the message :error:build failed to install apple-gcc42 :debug:build Registry error: xpm not registerd as installed & active in the logfile /opt/local/var/macports/logs/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports .org_release_tarballs_ports_lang_apple-gcc42/apple-gcc42/main.log The attempt to install xpm, sudo port install xpm failes since the port 'apple-gcc42' is required The xpm is by far not the only port which is in such a circular relation to apple-gcc42. Part of the error message was a list (see below). I just tried several ports at the beginning and at the end of the list. It turned out that all these are in the same circular dependency to 'apple-gcc42' like 'xpm'. #50000: perl5: improve / reimplement packaging -------------------------+-------------------------------- Reporter: mojca@… | Owner: macports-tickets@… Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: Normal | Milestone: Component: ports | Version: Keywords: | Port: perl5 perl5.22 -------------------------+-------------------------------- I'm opening this ticket to collect and vote on ideas with their pros and cons about different options to package: * `perl5[.x]` * perl modules `p5[.x]-foo` * ports that depend on Perl * `perl6` Desired features: * easy updates of perl modules, possibly (semi-)automated from metadata from CPAN * painless upgrades from `perl5.[n]` to `perl5.[n+1]` * reasonably small effort with modifying and revbumping all the ports that depend on Perl Some particular aspects to think about: * a port could have a flag (possibly "auto-generated") to indicate that there is no difference in what Perl version is being used (other than maybe path to perl, but path could be version-neutral); those ports won't need any revbumps after changing the version * ... Please try to think out of the box and and come up with proposals even if implementing them is not yet supported by the base. We can extend the base if we know exactly what we want to achieve.
