I have an updated Portfile for the remctl port. The current Portfile in MacPorts is for version 3.1; the latest version is 3.11. The first big difference between 3.1 and 3.11 is that libevent is required, so that port has been added to the depends list. Also, paths to pkg-config, prce-config, and krb5-config have been explicitly set. Another big thing: --enable-reduced-depends has been removed, because it causes remctl to build against the system Kerberos/GSSAPI, which does not work. A note to this effect has been added to the Portfile. Since remctl also has an optional daemon component (like OpenSSH does), I've added a startupitem to the Portfile. One thing that could be done in the future is to add support for building Perl, PHP, Python, and Ruby. The upstream distribution already has the code to build the bindings; it just needs to be integrated into the Portfile somehow. Amongst others the last bit of the installation code read: warning: manifest_maker: standard file '-c' not found The C compiler used to compile Python gcc-4.2, and which is normally used to compile C extensions, is not available. You can explicitly specify which compiler to use by setting the CC environment variable, for example: CC=gcc python setup.py <command> or if you are using MacOS X, you can try: CC=clang python setup.py <command> ---------------------------------------- Command "python setup.py egg_info" failed with error code 1 in /private/var/folders/zt/rfcx53ks5b7_1_773_2jwpp80000gn/T/pip-build- ImCNyh/astropy Now I do have gcc installed, so I tried looking for setup.py and I think the one installed with Macports version of Python on my laptop is in /opt/local/var/macports/sources/rsync.macports.org/release/tarballs/ports/python /py-entrypoints/files/ but when I try running python /opt/local/var/macports/sources/rsync.macports.org/release/tarballs/ports/python /py-entrypoints/files/setup.py install I get running install running build running build_py creating build error: could not create 'build': Permission denied Not sure how to use setup.py to install Pyraf or for that matter other modules. (I set `configure_ccache yes` in macports.conf.) As a consequence of this, /opt/local/bin/h4cc contains references to ccache: {{{ CCBASE="ccache /usr/bin/clang" CLINKERBASE="ccache /usr/bin/clang" }}} This causes ports (such as hdfeos) that want to use hdf4 to fail to build with an error message: {{{ configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables }}} and in config.log: {{{ ccache: error: Failed to create temporary file for /opt/local/var/macports/build/.ccache/3/stats.tmp: Operation not permitted }}} hdf4 should not bake directives to use ccache into its files, nor, ideally, should it bake a reference to a specific compiler. Instead, ports should respect the values of `configure.compiler` and `configure.ccache`.
