In the upgrade all the data and programmes were recovered from TimeMachine, and there the Pallet.app was installed under Applications; manually not with "port install pallet". The new installation was with "port install pallet", but the icon was under MacPorts/Pallet.app. I did not see it and then obviously started the older installation. I removed all installations of Pallet and reinstalled correctly with "port install pallet".
