#37028: bittorrent: Unable to install on 64 bit architecture -------------------------+-------------------------------- Reporter: mparchet@… | Owner: macports-tickets@… Type: defect | Status: closed Priority: Normal | Milestone: Component: ports | Version: Resolution: fixed | Keywords: Port: bittorrent | -------------------------+-------------------------------- Changes (by mojca@…): * cc: mojca@… (added) * status: new => closed * version: 2.1.2 => * resolution: => fixed Comment: I wasn't sure if I was supposed to make this as `fixed` or `wontfix`. The port is using `py25-wxpython-2.8` since r110279 which can be installed with the option `+gtk` which is supposed to work on 64-bit systems, but I didn't test it. But see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_%28software%29:
Since version 6.0 the BitTorrent client has been a rebranded version of µTorrent. As a result, it is no longer open source and is currently available for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X.
The port cannot be updated because the new version is not OpenSoure and the old version isn't maintained any more. The old version doesn't support wxWidgets 2.9 and never will (unless someone forks it and keeps maintaining it). My suggestion would be to remove the port, but that depends on whether any users still find it useful. (Personally I'm a happy user of Transmission.) In case that the new revision of `bittorrent` doesn't work and you would like to see it working, please open a new ticket and attach the full `main.log`. -- Ticket URL: <https://trac.macports.org/ticket/37028#comment:2> MacPorts <http://www.macports.org/> Ports system for OS X
