I am running OS X 11.6 with SIP disabled (for install just in case) and literally have 31 GB of other MacPorts working in harmony. I'm attaching the build log to show what occurred when attempting build with no variant. XCode 7.3 installed along with its Command Line Tools. Running on Macbook 2.5GHz i7 quad core. Never had a OS X version lower than 11.1 on it. uname output gives "...Darwin Kernel Version 15.6.0: Thu Jun 23 18:25:34 PDT 2016; root:xnu-3248.60.10~1/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64" "Apple LLVM version 7.3.0 (clang-703.0.31)" is the tool invoked by Macports to build this.
