 I cannot reproduce this problem on my Mac (10.4.11 ppc + Xcode 2.5).[[BR]]
 Please try "port clean ruby" && "port build ruby".

 I tested:

   % uname -r
   8.11.0
   % port info ruby
   ruby @1.8.7-p72, Revision 3 (lang, ruby)
