To test, build qt3 or fox with xorg dependencies installed using the system_x11 variant. Then run /opt/local/bin/assistant (part of qt3) or /opt/local/bin/adie (part of fox). I suspect this is do to conflict between the system Xft2 libraries and the macports freetype libraries. Attempting to force use of the system freetype libraries results in failed compiles.
