than just complaining.

I'm not sure I made my point clearly. I am not referring to your suggestions per se, but to your use of the macports-tickets mailing list.

We treat this list as a notification system for our bug tracker (https://trac.macports.org). Many contributors—perhaps most of them—avoid subscribing to it because they don't want to be inundated with ticket notification messages. Thus, your email will likely go unread by most of us. Mailing the list does not automatically create a PR.

Again, you should resend to macports-dev or macports-users if you wish to reach a larger audience. You could also create an actual Trac ticket (https://guide.macports.org/chunked/project.html#project.tickets).
