Is the maintainer still active? The only thing I see is that the `vtk-devel` port has some extra variants. Are any of these interesting? Are they working properly? Should we try to port some of these to the ``vtk5` port? At least the `+mpi` mibht be interesting but may require some work. And there is ticket #35402, requesting Java bindings for `vtk5` which is `+java` in `vtk-devel`. Also (but somewhat OT): I'd say the `+python2.` variants would be better implemented as `py2.` subports.
