I agree - a malloc error should be due to the base. I have 40 GB left on the HDD with 2GB of RAM. Not sure where to take it from here. I note that using 'livecheck', that there is a newer version of texlive available. Perhaps this wouldn't have the same problems? Of course, I could be clutching at straws here. Any advice would be most appreciated. cheers Kris. -- Ticket URL: <http://trac.macports.org/ticket/18073#comment:3> MacPorts <http://www.macports.org/> Ports system for Mac OS

Note that upgrading texlive is ticket #16492. -- Ticket URL: <http://trac.macports.org/ticket/18073#comment:4> MacPorts <http://www.macports.org/> Ports system for Mac OS

See for example the thread of http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/macports- users/2008-May/010440.html I have succesfully installed texlive on a machine with 256MB RAM in the past, so I guess something else is eating your memory. You could retry while using 'top -o rprvt' to monitor your memory. -- Ticket URL: <http://trac.macports.org/ticket/18073#comment:5> MacPorts <http://www.macports.org/> Ports system for Mac OS
