Macports already has a Python 3.1 port, but it's the alpha 1. According to [http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0375/#release-schedule PEP 375 (Python 3.1 Release Schedule)], 3.1 final will at best be released in a month, probably long enough to release RC1 on Macports (esp. considering alpha 1 is 2-months outdated and 3-months old).
