Some work was done a while back, but I haven't had chance to review it myself. Its a big change, and I am not so familiar with cake myself yet. Something to be reviewed when ROOT 6 comes along, as that in itself will require many changes anyway. I don't think there is any real need to do it sooner, it doesn't really impact on the user so much which build system is used.
