#51151: hdf5: updating to 1.10 switches to the new incompatible file format; please make it possible to build the 1.8.x branch -------------------------+-------------------------------- Reporter: ckhroulev@… | Owner: macports-tickets@… Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: Normal | Milestone: Component: ports | Version: 2.3.4 Keywords: | Port: hdf5 netcdf -------------------------+-------------------------------- HDF5 1.10 introduces the new file format that cannot be read with HDF5 1.8.x. (See [https://www.hdfgroup.org/HDF5/release/obtain5110.html#newfeat].) If I upgrade this port now, the tools I have on my system will generate files I cannot share with people that did not upgrade HDF5 to version 1.10 yet. Please consider adding a port variant (or a sub-port) that would use the 1.8.x branch of HDF5 (note that '''the 1.8.x branch is still maintained by HDF Group'''). This also affects NetCDF, which uses HDF5 under the hood. See [https://github.com/Unidata/netcdf-c/issues/250].
