Optionally there should be additional rpm version variants for each rpm version that's still supported on MacPorts. #38457: smart @1.2 has a +rpm5 variant that depends on rpm50, but rpm50 is replaced_by rpm52 ----------------------+-------------------------------- Reporter: egall@… | Owner: macports-tickets@… Type: defect | Status: new Priority: Normal | Milestone: Component: ports | Version: 2.1.3 Resolution: | Keywords: Port: smart | ----------------------+-------------------------------- Comment (by afb@…): Which versions are "supported" on MacPorts ? The smart port currently does rpm-4.4 and rpm-5.0 Actually it doesn't really matter which rpm version, as long as it has the "rpm" python module... Anyway, if there was any real interest the version of the port should be bumped to 1.4.1 as well ? As well as sorting out the mess that is python versions in MacPorts, to use the same as for rpm. -- Ticket URL: <https://trac.macports.org/ticket/38457#comment:1> MacPorts <http://www.macports.org/> Ports system for OS X

As I used it in the OP, I meant "not marked with `replaced_by` in their portfile" -- Ticket URL: <https://trac.macports.org/ticket/38457#comment:3> MacPorts <http://www.macports.org/> Ports system for OS X

It would probably be a much better idea to convert the librpm dependencies into python(rpm) dependencies, when possible. -- Ticket URL: <https://trac.macports.org/ticket/38457#comment:5> MacPorts <http://www.macports.org/> Ports system for OS X
