Everything seemed to run fine, but a .profile file was not created, as described in the Guide, and none of the commands worked. Following the notes I figured the thing to do was add relevant paths in my .bash_profile file. I added these lines : export PATH=$PATH:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin export MANPATH=$MANPATH:/opt/local/share/man This did the trick ok.
