E.g. the cocoa interface does not play well with keyboard inputs, and it takes all sorts of trickery to get the package to compile. I thus made up ports that install vtk5 version 5.3 from cvs. They work for me and seem to fix a lot of the issues that I've been having. I also removed python wrappers as a variant and added it in as a standard compile as many popular packages depend on this being present (e.g. enthought tool suite, Mayavi, paraview, ... ). Finally, since the data files are only needed to run the examples, I split that off into a separate package since most people likely do not need to install this.
