[MacPorts] #36769: dovecot2-sieve @0.3.1-1659 unable to install
#36769: dovecot2-sieve @0.3.1-1659 unable to install ---------------------------+-------------------------------- Reporter: bentley@… | Owner: macports-tickets@… Type: defect | Status: new Priority: Normal | Milestone: Component: ports | Version: 2.1.2 Keywords: dovecot-sieve | Port: ---------------------------+-------------------------------- An attempt to install dovecot2-sieve @0.3.1-1659 on a Mac mini running OS X 10.6.8 with Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard installed failed. I had just installed dovecot2@2.1.10_0. (That Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard (from the iPhone developer side) does not apparently work very well on that old Mac mini.) Regardless, here's the log: -- Ticket URL: <https://trac.macports.org/ticket/36769> MacPorts <http://www.macports.org/> Ports system for Mac OS

The log says "aclocal failed with exit status: 255" which is interesting, but it also was not a clean build attempt, so before we investigate, please "sudo port clean dovecot2-sieve", then try again, then attach the new main.log.
Ultimately the solution depended on installing perl 5.12 +threads, as the error message that stood in the way of progress was something like "this version of perl does not support threads" which at first glance made no sense to me, but turned out it was serious. Thanks for the help! -Mike

#36769: dovecot2-sieve @0.3.1-1659 unable to install -----------------------------+----------------------- Reporter: bentley@… | Owner: pixilla@… Type: defect | Status: closed Priority: Normal | Milestone: Component: ports | Version: 2.1.2 Resolution: invalid | Keywords: Port: dovecot2-sieve | -----------------------------+----------------------- Changes (by ryandesign@…): * status: new => closed * resolution: => invalid Comment: In looks like the real error in both logs was "`This Perl not built to support threads`". You [http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/macports- dev/2012-November/020967.html said on the mailing list] that installing perl5.12 with the +threads variant solved the problem. As [http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/macports- dev/2012-November/020968.html Clemens replied], this tells us that your ports tree is months out of date, because the +threads variant was removed from the perl5.12 port in r94655 and threads support was turned permanently on. Please run: {{{ sudo port selfupdate sudo port upgrade outdated }}} to update all your ports. -- Ticket URL: <https://trac.macports.org/ticket/36769#comment:4> MacPorts <http://www.macports.org/> Ports system for Mac OS
