Maybe this version of grass is not compatible with the new version of ffmpeg that we have in MacPorts. The [http://trac.osgeo.org/grass/wiki/Release/6.4.3RC1-News release notes for grass 6.4.3RC1] say they add support for newer versions of ffmpeg. So presumably once 6.4.3 final is released we could update to that to solve the problem. I is probably okay an 10.5 as well, as this was only a configure issue.
