[MacPorts] #29773: If rsync fails during install it gets ugly
#29773: If rsync fails during install it gets ugly -----------------------------+---------------------------------------------- Reporter: greg@… | Owner: macports-tickets@… Type: defect | Status: new Priority: Normal | Milestone: Component: ports | Version: 1.9.2 Keywords: installer, fail | Port: -----------------------------+---------------------------------------------- I was installing and rsync failed. My internet connection is satellite internet, and the rsync connection failed. I waited a long time but LittleSnitch showed me that there was zero activity going on. I needed to begin again. But at that point the installer offers no cancel option. Choosing to quit the installer only brought up a message about the installer being "busy". I had to force quit the installer. Then when I tried to reinstall it said there already was an installation running and '''AGAIN''' I couldn't quit. So I force quit again. Finally after a reboot I could get the installer going again. And guess what? Rsync failed again and again I can't quit or back out any way other than a force quit. I'm done with MacPorts. I know you guys are doing it for free and I appreciate that. But I find the installer unusable. Greg -- Ticket URL: <https://trac.macports.org/ticket/29773> MacPorts <http://www.macports.org/> Ports system for Mac OS

Since rsync seems to be unreliable for you, you could use a different method. Thank you very much! But my issue is more with the installer. Not having a way to back out other than a force quit is ugly and will be a bigger issue the less savvy the user is. Since a least part of the idea of MacPorts is to make things simpler and doable for the less tech savvy it seems like that's a rough edge you'd want to smooth off. The rest is a duplicate of #18315. -- Ticket URL: <https://trac.macports.org/ticket/29773#comment:3> MacPorts <http://www.macports.org/> Ports system for Mac OS
