I installed kdebaseapps. After using konqueror for awhile, making some custom settings and running "kbuildsycoca4" a few times, I found that dolphin would start. However, as soon as I tried to navigate to a folder, it would crash. I was able to open preferences and selected the setting for "Use common properties for all folders".
