Some info: Mac Pro 3,1 in 64bit mode dual quad-core xeons. Clean new install about a month ago of 10.6.

What exactly are you doing? What did you do the first time? I finally figured it out, but it was only after using a command (port clean --dist all) that was suggested on another fully unrelated ticket. This worked and I was able to get it installed.
