I installed the pinentry-mac port and then tried:

/Applications/MacPorts/pinentry-mac.app/Contents/MacOS/pinentry-mac

but it shows the prompt in the console instead of as a GUI. I am using the pinentry 0.8.1_1 port. Any ideas on why this might be happening and how to debug further?

Doing:

Applications/MacPorts/pinentry-mac.app/Contents/MacOS/pinentry-mac --debug

gives no further information.

And that's then printing on `STDOUT` and reading from `STDIN`. That's normal. After it started up, enter `GETPIN`, which will bring up a (in this case test) graphical dialog.
