If you cannot use rsync on your network, then you cannot use the selfupdate command and must use alternate methods for updating MacPorts base, such as downloading new installers from our web site. To sync your ports, use "sudo port sync". "sync" by default uses rsync, but unlike "selfupdate" can be configured to use other protocols.
