I had not updated MacPorts for a while before the update to 10.6.3 so I can't tell if that was a causative factor. I tried following the migration guidelines and ended up delting /opt/local and trying with a brand new install of MacPorts, installing, sync and upgrade, then installed zlib and then openssl, also tried the same thing letting openssl bring in the install of zlib. Same error each time.
