even though ticket 49634 is marked as closed, support for a proper port for mysql does not seem to be completed.

There exists mysql57 and mysql57-server ports but a socket for mysql57 does not seem to exist. Also, the how to page for installing mysql (https://trac.macports.org/wiki/howto/MySQL) stops at mysql 56.

The socket will exist after you properly configure and start the server. Anyone is free to edit and improve the wiki.
