It gives a wrong application name in the menu bar. It shows 'script' instead of GIMP (or gimp, or Gimp). However, when using gimp-app, the file that is executed is a symbolic link to $(prefix)/bin/gimp which resides in the app bundle's Resources directory. This was originally named 'script' but it now renamed to 'GIMP', the GIMP developers' preferred name. Note that none of this makes any difference for the X11 GIMP build where a GTK+ approach is taken.
