It's easier to debug issues when we know where the install is supposed to be located. Ditto for dependencies, and so forth. MacPorts is a control freak ;) BTW> Do we want the Qt4 install prefix to match that for Qt5, and be ${prefix}/libexec/qt4-mac? I was just going to use: ${prefix}/libexec/qt4 for simplicity, since I cannot foresee a time when qt4-x11 is a viable alternative. Nor qt5-x11 either, for that matter.
