is the avahi user creation supposed to be part of installing avahi?

[/opt/local/etc]# avahi-daemon Failed to find user 'avahi'. I am away from access to alternate hardware, please let me know what you find. I have not found a resolution as yet. So who owns the macports Wordpress/TRAC system?

The reason I ask is that I would like to change my password to something more memorable, since it never makes into my keychain. And I can't touch my profile due to some permissions issues. -R upgrade

I used port -R upgrade sqlite3, to upgrade from 3.5.1_0 to 3.5.2_0, and it says at the end: ---> Deactivating sqlite3 3.5.1_0 Error: Deactivating sqlite3 3.5.1_0 failed: Active version of sqlite3 is not 3.5.1_0 but 3.5.2_0. Isn't that a bug? I then used port -f uninstall sqlite3 @3.5.1_0 and now port outdated shows no outdated ports. I didn't check but I think after the error if I had tried to uninstall without -f it would complain that things depend on 3.5.1_0 and would say the same about 3.5.2_0, is that a bug? That is what happened when I upgraded gettext. I used -R because I thought I would have to rebuild everything that depends on the upgraded port. Is -R supposed to do that? Kendall

gmime no longer builds on leopard

A few days ago I installed pan2 and all its dependencies. I'm having problems trying to compile wine so I deleted /opt/local and reinstalled macports. Now, gmime won't build. Hi, I have tried a new installation on Leopard. I have installed XCode and the Unix SDK. When I try sudo port selfupdate (I have a version 1.5 installed), I receive this error message: configure: Please install the BSD SDK package from the Xcode Developer Tools CD. configure: error: libmd was found, but md5.h is missing. Well the file md5.h exists (spotlight find it in crypto and sys ...)? Can someone help? Thanks // Jph

Problems with w3m

I have run it with gdb and it reveals that it hangs in: Program received signal SIGINT, Interrupt. 0xffff0292 in ___spin_lock () at /System/Library/Frameworks/System.framework/PrivateHeaders/i386/cpu_capabilities.h:216 216 /System/Library/Frameworks/System.framework/PrivateHeaders/i386/cpu_capabilities.h: No such file or directory. in /System/Library/Frameworks/System.framework/PrivateHeaders/i386/cpu_capabilities.h (gdb) bt #0 0xffff0292 in ___spin_lock () at /System/Library/Frameworks/System.framework/PrivateHeaders/i386/cpu_capabilities.h:216 This spin_lock is some synchronisation thing in Mac OS X I think. I have also seen problems with it in emacs when malloc calls were done in signal handlers. verifying your macports

After the scare of spurious libgcc getting in the way, I'm wondering how can we verify our setups. This is when rpm-style verification and binary distros shine. Sure you can compile stuff, but what if some crap got into your PATH -- beginning with a wrong gcc? What if some other crap got into LDFLAGS or DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH or whatever? What tools are there to verify -- completeness of each port -- proper chain of dependencies of each port -- checking that no port depends on any package not built by the ports -- e.g., nothing outside /opt/local -- that each executable in /opt/local/bin will load -- what else? I've installed gentoo-alt prefix portage and it's fun to compare with macports. Does anybody know of a port=>ebuild convertor? That would be even more fun. "Portage: making simlpe things even more difficult!" :) Cheers, Alexy

smpeg Question

Hi. I just installed the smpeg port on my Intel iMac running Leopard (10.5.0). Although the port seemed to have installed successfully, I got a pair of error messages during the fetch phase (see below). I don't have an E-mail address for the maintainer of this port, which is listed simply as "mww" in the Portfile. Can someone help shed some light on the error messages for me?
