dbus issue

Hello, Recently did the selfupdate and update installed ports. Now when I try to run deluge, X11 starts fine but I get the error: Failed to start message bus: Failed to read directory "/opt/local/etc/dbus-1/session.d": No such file or directory EOF in dbus-launch reading address from bus daemon I look in the directory reffered to and see: -rw-r--r-- 2 root admin 2524 Mar 25 05:56 session.conf -rw-r--r-- 2 root admin 2545 Mar 25 05:56 system.conf drwxr-xr-x 4 root admin 136 Mar 25 05:56 system.d This began only after the most recent updating of ports. I was getting the console messages about org.freedesktop.avahi-daemon Looked at the ticket at http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/macports/ticket/14163 Ran the commands and cleared up the console errors. There are a couple of other users getting this same error when trying to start deluge after doing updates. Please let me know fi I can provide further information. Well, I thought it might be a problem with teTeX. Actually doxygen has a dependency on /opt/local/bin/pdflatex which could be provided by either teTeX or texlive. I don't think substituting with teTeX will help. It works fine for me with texlive @2007_4. Maybe try to uninstall doxygen completely and then try again to install it? Port Sync via Daily Tarball

I did some initial work on making a daily tarball copy of the rsync (release) repo and made it available on www.macports.org. Be warned, its only lightly tested, but its also not very invasive. Please test it out and expand the HOWTO or file tickets against server/hosting if you find a problem. The tarball updates daily in the afternoon (PDT), but the exact time is subject to change. Difficulties installing Gnumeric

Hi, I'm currently experiencing difficulties installing Gnumeric. I installed XCode and macports, then ran "sudo port install gnumeric" from the terminal. I got the attached error message when the installer got up to python. I am using Mac Mini 1.25GHz PPC running OSX 10.4.11. I may have brought this down on myself with my install of XCode. Due to low bandwidth, I didn't download the newer version of XCode, but rather the bundled version (2.0) with my Tiger install disk. In addition, due to low disk space, I only installed what (I thought) was the minimum I needed from XCode. This was: * Developer Tools Software * gcc 4.0 * Mac OS X SDK * BSD SDK * X11 SDK I installed only these after viewing numerous different sites and cobbling together what I thought was necessary. Does anyone have any hints? [MySQL] Install difficulties : Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/opt/local/var/run/mysql5/mysqld.sock'

I've installed and reinstalled MySQL with the following command line: $ sudo port install mysql5 +server Initially, I had trouble creating the initial mysql database because the /opt/local/temp directory did not exist (and therefore the /opt/ local/temp/mysql5 directory did not exist). Creating these two directories, and making the mysql user the owner of /opt/local/temp/mysql5 allowed me to build the initial database, but sadly it had no data in any of the non-index tables. I went ahead and unistalled mysql5 and reinstalled it, and now I get the following when I try to change the root password: $ mysqladmin -u root password 'newpass' mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/opt/ local/var/run/mysql5/mysqld.sock' (2)' Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/opt/local/ var/run/mysql5/mysqld.sock' exists! I verified that mysqld is running through the Activity Monitor. Sure enough, /opt/local/var/run/mysql5/mysqld.sock does not exist. In fact, mysqld.sock does not exist anywhere on my hard drive, a fact which I determined by: $ sudo find / -name "*.sock" Elsewhere, I found an instruction to $ touch opt/local/var/run/mysql5/mysqld.sock This command creates an empty file of the correct name; however, when I tried to change the root password, I got: $ mysqladmin -u root password 'newpass' mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/opt/ local/var/run/mysql5/mysqld.sock' (38)' Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/opt/local/ var/run/mysql5/mysqld.sock' exists! Note that only the error number changed. When I stopped and restarted mysql5: $ sudo launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/ org.macports.mysql5.plist $ sudo launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/ org.macports.mysql5.plist I found that the mysqld.sock was deleted from opt/local/var/run/mysql5/ Does anyone have any ideas about what I'm supposed to do to get a properly functioning MySQL5 installation? Environment: MacPorts version 1.600. I've done a selfupdate before attempting to install MySQL5 Power Mac G4 Mac OS X 10.4.11

Perl 5.8 build failing

I've been tying to install the ImageMagick perl module, and it is crashing on the installation of perl 5.8. The error is: ./perl installperl --destdir=/opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_ports_lang_perl5.8/work/destroot Can't find 'boot_File__Glob' symbol in lib/auto/File/Glob/Glob.bundle at lib/File/Glob.pm line 96 Compilation failed in require at installperl line 132. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at installperl line 132. make[1]: *** [install.perl] Error 255 make: *** [install] Error 2 I also tried to install pert5.10, same error. I saw a bug opened for this issue that hasn't been addressed. Is there anyway for me to let macports use my pre-existing Leopard version of perl 5.8. I am running 10.5.2 on a PPC G4. Those of you who are a college student, work on a college campus, know college students, or have a college student as a child, please notice: The Google Summer of Code student application deadline for 2008 has been extended for one week to April 7. This means that students have one additional week to apply for a summer job to help extend MacPorts!!! This is a great opportunity for students to get real, live, on the ground programming experience, work on an exciting open source project with an experienced adult mentor, and (best of all) to be paid $4500 USD by google for the summer of work. MacPorts has many great tasks that could use attention, and still has lots of slots for volunteers; we could use more applicants. Please pass the word to qualified and interested student applicants: the more applicants we get, the more slots we'll positions we'll be granted by google. Adventures in 64-bit computing

Hi all, Kudos to all who work on this most valuable project. Now, back to whining... :-) Still failing to get 64-bit MacPorts to work properly, I though I'd relay my progress so far. The short story is some ports do not compile properly as ppc64. Others do, but don't compile properly on x86_64. I'm prepared, of course, to notify the individual maintainers of these ports, but first I'd like your opinion on whether my general strategy is sound. Note: I've given up the "universal" strategy using MacPorts 1.7 (trunk) for the time being, as I can't even get '+universal' to work on Leopard (see this post: http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/macports-dev/2008-March/004704.html) . But maybe this is a known issue? * Case 1: Installing ppc and ppc64 binaries in separate directories Environment: OS X Server 10.5.2, MacPorts 1.6, Dual G5 PM. - Installing from disk image to /opt/local produces a working MacPorts installation. I use this to install 32-bit binaries and libraries. - Installing a second 1.6 MacPorts from source to /opt/local-64/, following the instructions in the MacPorts Guide also works fine, configured as follows: # ./configure --prefix=/opt/local-64 --with-tclpackage=/Library/Tcl/ macports-64 - I then edit /opt/local-64/share/macports/Tcl/port1.0/ portconfigure.tcl: default configure.m64 yes default configure.mtune {"G5"} - The following ports (prerequisites) now produce ppc64 binaries and libraries. Manual compilation of ppc64 binaries depending on these libraries also work fine. expat, libiconv, gettext (w/ deps), popt - Trying to install 64-bit "R", I fail on some dependencies: "gmp" builds, but needs to be edited as follows: configure.env ABI=mode64 "mpfr" builds. "gcc42" (for some reason a library and compiler dependency) I cannot get it to to compile on 64-bit. Some stages produce ppc64 object files but some ignore the -m64 flag and build ppc object files. Needless to say, the linker is not happy. * Case 2: Installing i386 and x86_64 "universal" binaries. Environment: OS X 10.5.2, MacPorts 1.6, CoreDuo MBP (32-bit machine, I know!) - Installed MacPorts 1.6 from disk image into /opt/local, then editing the following files: variants.conf: added +universal portconfigure.tcl set/added "-arch i386 -arch x86_64" in default variables: configure.universal_cflags, configure.universal_cxxflags, configure.universal_ldflags - Trying to install 64-bit "R", I fail on some dependencies: "gmp" builds, but needs to be edited as follows. This is reasonable, as this port does not have a universal variant, plus I'm on a 32-bit machine: configure.cflags-append -m64 "mpfr" fails in the configure stage: "configure: error: libgmp not found or uses a different ABI". I suspect this is due to the configure script trying to compile and run a 64-bit code snippet, which of course will fail on the CoreDuo. I will try to get my hands on a proper x86_64 machine and let you know how it turns out. "gcc42" depends on mpfr, so this has not been tested yet. Any feedback is appreciated. A 64-bit clean MacPorts would (in my view) be a significant improvement to an already great tool. TIA, /Emil
