I installed the macports gcc42 package, but I can't determine whether this has already happened or not: humber:~ williamg$ gcc-mp-4.2 --version gcc-mp-4.2 (GCC) 4.2.0 Copyright (C) 2007 Free Software Foundation, Inc. This is free software; see the source for copying conditions. There is NO warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. - It just says "4.2.0".
