I'll have to follow up with the developers, if I think it is useful.  I have a few things to track down and liboss might not be important.

You'll have to ask the developers of liboss whether it's dead or not.
I hadn't heard of liboss or oss until you mentioned them, and I
hadn't heard of alsa until I saw it in the dependencies of icedtea
when you brought up that you were trying to compile icedtea.
