ruby 1.9?

Is there a way to install ruby 1.9 through MacPorts? I think it becomes quite reasonable to have a closer look at this for many people. I would add a simple portfile myself, but I'm a bit scared of the amount fo patches that come with the 1.8 ruby -- what is the nature of them and are they essential for regular usage?
