An update: while installing p5-sdl-perl by itself still fails, I tried installing frozenbubble2 and somehow it managed to 'build' p5-sdl-perl and install it. So now I can at least, get the video to display. No sound yet though.. Warning: can't initialize sound (reason: Can't locate auto/SDL/MixOpenAudi.al in @INC (@INC contains: /opt/local/lib/perl5/5.8.8/darwin-2level /opt/local/lib/perl5/5.8.8 /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/darwin-2level /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8 /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl /opt/local/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/darwin-2level /opt/local/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8 /opt/local/lib/perl5/vendor_perl .)). I tried installing the SDL sound libraries, but it didn't do any good. I wonder if all OSS is this hard to install.
